We make mistakes. When we find one, or you tell us about one, we fix it in the open.
Our policy
- A factual error gets a dated note. We fix the page and add a note that gives the date and says what changed. We never fix a fact in silence.
- What counts as an error of fact. A wrong figure, date or name; a claim that its source does not support; a step that does not work. Typos and small wording fixes do not change a fact, so they do not get a note.
- Facts that change after we publish. When an official fact changes, for example the number of people affected by a breach, we update the page the same way, with a dated note.
- Where you see the note. On the page itself, in a “Corrections” section.
- “Last updated.” The date at the top of a page moves only for a real change of substance, such as a correction.
Report a mistake
Write to [email protected]. Tell us the page and the sentence, and add a link to a source if you have one. If you are right, we correct the page and add the note.
